The verdicts

  1. PickFathom

    Fathom

The free plan records and transcribes every call with no limit, which is enough for most people. Premium is $20 a month, or $16 billed yearly.

Wrong forAnyone who needs recordings stored in Europe: Fathom hosts data in the US.

The catchFathom may train its own models on de-identified data unless you opt out. OpenAI, Anthropic and Google may not train on it.

    Your data
May train its in-house models on de-identified data; opt out in account settings.
    On business plans
Third-party AI providers aren’t allowed to train on it.
    UK / EU data residency
    US-hosted.

  2. Picktl;dv

    tl;dv

The one for businesses that care where recordings live: all its data centres are in Europe, and it says no customer data is used to train its AI.

Wrong forAnyone after the cheapest paid plan: Pro is €29 a seat a month, or €18 billed yearly.

    Your data
No customer data is used to train the AI.
    On business plans
Same; it uses Anthropic models with anonymised, chunked data.
    UK / EU data residency
All data centres are in Europe.
  3. PickMicrosoft

    Microsoft Teams Premium

If your meetings are on Teams, intelligent recap gives you AI notes and tasks for £7.70 a user a month on top of Microsoft 365. Microsoft says recap data isn’t used for training, and stored data stays in the UK for UK tenants.

Wrong forAnyone whose calls happen on Zoom or Google Meet: it only covers Teams meetings and calls.

The catchPaid yearly, before VAT, and it needs a paid Teams licence underneath, such as Microsoft 365 Business Basic at £5.40 a user a month.

    Your data
Microsoft says recap data isn’t logged or used to train any AI model.
    On business plans
Follows your organisation’s Teams compliance policies; notes are stored in participants’ mailboxes. Microsoft’s recap privacy page dates from November 2023.
    UK / EU data residency
Stored data stays in the UK for tenants signed up in the UK. Microsoft doesn’t say where the AI processing runs.
  4. ConsiderFireflies.ai

    Fireflies.ai

Doesn’t train on customer data and keeps zero-day retention with its AI providers. Pro is $10 a seat billed yearly, or $18 monthly.

Wrong forAnyone who needs to know where their data is stored: Fireflies doesn’t say.

    Your data
Doesn’t use customer data to train any AI models.
    On business plans
A data processing agreement is available to sign.
    UK / EU data residency
    Not stated.
  5. ConsiderGranola

    Granola

Basic is free with 30 days of history and Business is $14 a user. UK students can get 12 months of Business free.

Wrong forAnyone who wants training off by default: Granola trains on anonymised data unless each user opts out.

    Your data
Trains on anonymised customer data by default; each user can opt out.
    On business plans
Off by default on Enterprise. Third parties may not train on it.
    UK / EU data residency
    US-hosted.
  6. SkipOtter.ai

    Otter.ai

Otter trains on de-identified recordings and transcripts, describes no way to opt out, and stores everything in the US. Fathom’s free plan does the same job, and tl;dv keeps data in Europe.

Wrong forAnyone recording client calls they’d rather not have used for training.

    Your data
Trains on de-identified recordings and transcripts; no opt-out is described.
    On business plans
Enterprise customers can ask their account manager to keep data out of training.
    UK / EU data residency
    US only.
